Present simple uses
1) In Spanish the present simple can be used to describe events or actions happening in the present. In English we usually use the present continuous, except in newspaper headlines or in sporting commentary.
Why are you laughing —¿Por qué te ríes?
I´m calling to tell you something — Te llamo para decirte algo
2) In English the present simple can also be used in cases where something is scheduled in the future but we use present continuous for arranged events.
John is coming tomorrow — John viene mañana
The bus arrives at 6pm tomorrow — El autobús llega a las 6 p.m. mañana
3) In Spanish the present simple can also be used to describe events which will happen in the future; in English we would use the future tense.
Sí, ahora lo contamos — Yes, we'll talk about that now
Luego te ayudo con eso — I'll help you with that later
