Inversion
Used to change the emphasis in a sentence and to vary the writing style. We change the order of the subject and verb just like a question. Usually formed by adverbs or adverb phrases, but adjectives can also be used.
E.g.
Adverbs
1) Normal sentence- I am hungry and tired too- Estoy hambriento y cansado también
Inversion- Not only am I hungry, but tired too- No solo estoy hambriento, sino cansado también
2) Inversion- Rarely will you see such great writing- Rara vez verás escritura tan buena
Adjectives/participle +to be
1) Normal sentence- The internet is central to this revival
Inversion- Central to this revival is the internet
2) Normal sentence- A small handle is attached to the door
Inversion- Attached to the door is a small handle
Conditonal Use
1)If we bought the flat, I would need to get a loan -
Inversion- Were we to buy the flat, I would need to get a loan- Si compraramos el piso, necesitaría pedir un prèstamo
2)If I had saved more, I would be able to afford that flat
Inversion- Had I saved more, I would be able to afford that flat- Si hubiera ahorrado más, podría permitirme ese piso
